Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. If there is anyway I can get down to Maker this year I will. My family are pulling my leg something terrible.... say I am an old hippy! hee hee think it must be true. Sat there doing my degree work last night listening to Bob Dylan, Melanie, then went up tempo to the Yardbirds lol. Actually, I am not terribly old born in the 60's.
My hubby said he offered to buy me a Kaftan 25 years ago and I refused, now he thinks I am ready for it! Seriously, I would love to involve my whole family, youngest daughter into art and design, next one sings and works with troubled kids, hubby ex builder but had accident so can't work full trottle anymore-so let's hope somehow we can lend a hand down there. Oh btw, I love cooking and will always feed someone in need of grub and a natter- I'm a part qualified counsellor-but gone over to working with kids in therapeutic work.
Anyway, I will do my best this end to promote Maker-got lots of friends into performing and supporting live music, so looks like the place to be for them too.
Best wishes to whoever reads this comment.
Have a great year, All the best, Lynne

Hi Lynne,
Loved reading your message, thought it only polite to post a response.
Maker Heights has been going from strength to strength over the past 5 years, the sunnshine festival has provided an ideal opportunity for 1000's of people to visit and enjoy this wonderful part of Cornwall, and also to raise money and recruit members for the Rame conservation trust, which has done so much good work to preserve Maker for future generations. If you visited now I don't think you would be dissappointed in what has been achieved, in fact the only thing that hasn't changed are the wonderful views and the lovely villages of Kingsand and Cawsand. The main building is undergoing extensive renovation, and studios and workshops are being created for local artists and crafts people, they even have their own bar and brewery there now!
My advice to you would be to download the camping booking form, pick a long weekend and treat yourself and your family to a follow-up trip down memory lane. Pick a weekend when there is music on at the bar there and you'll have even more fun!
I've always wanted to visit Dungeness but the long drive has put me off, do you want to make a deal? Best wishes.

Hi all, I am so pleased to hear that maker is still open-I went there many times during the 1970's with my school on holiday. I returned when my daughter was almost two years old in 1989.
I dragged little one and hubby up to Maker Camp and found the site derelict, I felt so sad. Took lots of pics, the old huts were still standing that I stayed in with all my school friends. I think the dining hall and recreation hall had been demolished by then.
Many times in the last twenty years, I have said to my hubby how much I would like to visit again, and that I dreaded enquiring; in case it had been taken over by developers. I always said if we had the money (which we never have) my dream would be to open the site for recreation, concerts camping etc. I can hardly begin to tell you how excited I was when I found the Webbie today.
I do hope everyone can continue their good work with the project, and I hope to visit as soon as I can afford. I live in Essex, so unfortunately good few hours away. Ironically that little girl I brought along all those years ago, sings part time and is hoping to appear at a festival this year. That's if she can get over her stage fright!
I look forward to returning to maker, with excitement rather than dread now.
Whoever reads this message, I truly hope Maker gives you the pleasure it has given me.

Campaign to stop police charging community events!

Why should any of you pay twice?

Under recent guidance from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) local police forces have been charging community arts and music events for the cost of policing.

Any community event with a stage / entertainment license , a few stalls and stewards is at risk from the police charging for their services.
These events are often run by volunteers on shoestring budgets and cannot afford the charges. A number of events are under threat of closing / not happening in future years.

Community events promote community cohesion, encourage community engagement and are generally a force for good in society, these are all key national indicators for the department of culture media and sport (DCMS).

We urge the goverment / home office to stop the police charging these events for policing costs.

Please sign the petition online at

Hello everybody....
Sorry for lack of communication regards Maker Sunshine Festival.
We are not planning to run the Maker Sunshine Festiva this year. There are various reasons for this - the main ones being whilst we love the Festival and the gathering it has become we could do with a rest year for ourselves as organisers and after two wet years in a row the site is still very cut up and we feel the land needs a rest too.
The campsite will be open from April 1st and the Energy Room and Random Arms Bar are open all year around with live music weekends, regular Open Mic Nights and Art House Film nights.
We plan to host several small scale camping weekends over the summer with live music and Cabaret so look out for some mellow Maker moments on the website...
Love n Peace to all

Maker on.. Maker off (as far as we are aware - The Maker Green Team that is) there won't be a Maker Sunshine Festival in 2009.

This isn't to say that Maker Events are not planning / thinking about doing other events in 2009!

What Pete told me (prior to Xmas) is that they feel they need to go back to 'smaller events' - how Maker started in the beginning, full circle so to speak!

I'm sure Pete will soon inform all of you here what just might be happening in 2009.

Whatever this might be, it will be brilliant!

Many struck by the fact that the third level of mortality after cardiovascular diseases and cancer is diabetes. Cure this disease is virtually impossible, however, the results of studies show that if maintain the level of sugar in the blood may be closer to the norm, it is possible to greatly reduce the probability of occurrence of complications caused by diabetes. This, in addition to traditional means, well helps Noni juice.

Starlix (Nateglinide) is used to control blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes.

Just got back to Brighton after a 4 week tour of cornish and devnish festivals .... they all had mud n chilled good vibes but Maker this year was the tops .... it was the best Maker vibe ever (I was there in 1999) like Glasto in the 70's n 80's with folks there just to enjoy being there.... best bits were the caberet big top, the hemp space, heligan honey, dreadzone, Mark's chokkie cake, mad dog, black sheep ale, circus of sound, the samosas in the accoustic tent, the heathens, Geoff's coat, entity, coffee at veggie stall by the capn's house, kangaroo moon, the smoothie maker mono-cyclist, mc fashion + the dj set, sundays reggae party at the random (wish I could have stayed longer frodo) and the smiley people evrywhere +++++++ of course the bar staff ... thanx guys, great job ..... the worst bits ... the mud come Sunday and the few folks who cant do festivals properly!

Cheers pete n loobs for all this, without your effort n smiles this wouldnt happen .... lets make maker sunshine next year x2all pete

Thank you Maker for another lush year!

I slept in my car kuz my tent got a little blown away Wednesday night...fab..

Silly me, how did i not know anything about the bunker nights?? I guess the people i went with last year werent intersted so ddidnt tell me about it...rubbish.

Does anyone know who the crazy afro man was around D N B bunker? Refering to everyone as "Barry"... Yes there were alot of "Chavs" as people have mentioned, but then they werent all neccisarly all bad. I got refered to as a hippy by everyone...even security knoew me as the hippy-but im not one. i met alot so called cavs there who were so lush! one of which was security himself-you gotta remember that people sometimes arent wearing their usual atire at festivals, where they know they'll get thrashed in mud-so dont worry guys, i dont thik there were that many "chavs" as we all assumed.... Freshly Squeezed funked the roof off, those guys were ridiculous, Amazing! Had no experience of violence, just merry people havin loads of fun together! Thanks for a brill time :-)

Thanks a million - Loobs, Pete and all the team. Loads of happy faces in the rain, and the sun shone for the final evening.
A brilliant effort, part of the ongoing work by a lot of local people to keep this beautiful site for the use of the whole community.
Sorry that there were some problems - bound to be some - but I know you're always there to stamp out problems as soon as you hear about them. I also know you go out of your way to make it as safe as poss. for the local community The nights were quieter this year with tasty and well-monitored entertainment.
Festival goers - look forward to seeingyou all next year!

I thought this year's maker was hella good! Spec "The Random Arms" Bar & The Energy Room & The Foam Party On Sunday Night In The Random Arms Was Awesome Aswell :P Same Again Next Year I Say, All The Bands/DJ's Were Good In The Energy Room, The Only Probably I'd Say Is No Gaps Between Them lol Chris Had To Set Up So Therefore Some Bands Didn't Have A Full Hour Set, But Still, Energy Room/The Random Arms Was Still The Best Venue. Hemp Space/The Bunkers As Well Were Good. Cant Wait Til Next Year =] Got A New Tent Already (A Decent One Compared To This Year) lol And Cheers To TJ For Helping Me Out With Lighting And Cheers To Pete For Getting Me Involved With Lighting This Year, Hope Everyone Liked It, If Anyone Has An Tips :P Feel Free To Contact Me =]

Roll On Next Year :D

Hey, Amazing festival as always, can't wait for next year. Does anyone know the name of the band that were playing in the Hemp Space early monday morning? I met one of the guys from the band and want to check he's alright, he looked pretty comatose last time I saw him. Cheers.

06 August 2008 17:23:29
Well that was Maker Sunshine Festival for another year...
Thanks very much to all those that came...it is very much the people that make the festival. Yes there were a small minority who can't just have fun without making a fuss and spoiling other peoples enjoyment...I'd love them to b*gger off and be a nuisance somewhere else or better still get a life and learn some self control! Comms with Black Friday broke down and the word is the drummer couldn't make the gig due to other commitments...shame. A big thank you to the Maker Green Team who are on site as we speak recycling the waste and helping to restore Maker to it's former beauty.
Cabaret tent was tops, as was the Energy Room...Main stage and 2nd Stage excellent as usual... The Hemp Space was sublime. From the feedback I've had the overall vibe and enjoyment factor was good...
See you next time

Maker Maker Maker! is amazing.
Thought the local bands shone thru ths year, Freshly Squeezed, Circus 'o Sound & Pentor all deserve good slots next year. Is it me or could it be time to break the Mad dog finale tradition? Everyone here is still tired but luvs it. Didn't get into th comedy tent much cos it was full most of the time. Tho a lot of the visiting bands were real slick a lot weren't realy my style.

Excellent festival, - as always. The rain made no real difference to us and our 10-year old enjoyed it. I have to make a couple of comments: The entire water system failing just beore the last night's partying began was bad (and possibly dangerous for some - if you know what I mean). It was never repaired. There were too many cars allowed to drive through the site too fast and they could never have stopped for children in the way in that mud. It would be better if there was a tent in the arena where people could shelter if they don't want to cram into one of the music stage tents in the rain. More places to sit down, - inside and outside the marquees. Lastly, jut too many yob teenage chavs in Nike and Adidas stuff. Put the prices up for them and turn it into a nicer, more adult-balanced festival, - please!
Having said all that, we really think it's getting better and better each year and the quality of the bands and a generally sensible, pragmatic approach to security is so refreshing nowadays.
me
05 August 2008 23:45:39
the festival had alot more chavvy feel to it this year, a couple of my mates got punched for no reason other than that they were there. that was in the main stage aswell, but i suppose security cant be everywhere.
but it was still an amazing four days, and two days on i still want to be up there.
to all the complainers, i recommend you retire to your tents at 12 if you dont want to see the dodgy side of what is otherwise a very family-friendly festival.
ohyeh, please get a medic that isnt on a power trip, despite having no clue whasoever about first aid for next year. if it wasnt for the paramedics, my mate would have been forced into going to hospital very early on into the night. not on!
anyway, had a great time. roll on next august!

05 August 2008 22:48:09
The festival itself was brilliant as it always is. Although I found three discrepencies from over anxious security running it. On one occassion afriend of mine had her finger bitten so badly that has needed to have it treated with very strong penicillin. Lets hope it mends and she doesn't need it cutting open and draining as the doctor explained might happen. Please, please, it is so important that these festivals are not taken advantage by over zealous security when not necessary. Sorry to report this but unless we want festivals such as the maker to stay fun, friendly and safe, these incidents need to be addressed.

Had a great time, all the family and friends around. Friend had a lovely Indian Head Massage. Great music, loved the new cabaret tent - wicked line-up. Shame about the weather but still didn't want to leave. No experience of violence and thieving - had two chairs nicked a couple of years ago but you've got to expect it. Got loads of nice photos - posted on Picassa.

Hi

Just got back from our third Maker. Great!

Sad to hear that there was some nicking going on (we had a picnic table swipped), but "If you don't want to loose it, don't take it" seems to be the case at most festivals these days.

Some great bands. A big thanks to the bar staff who seemed to be doing a brilliant job.

Cheers

What a great weekend! We were there for the 5th year running, with our three children, and we thought it was the best ever this year! Mad Dog and Dreadzone were awesome, the Energy Room was alot of fun, the Cabaret tent was great, and the vibe was balanced and groovy. Been reading the comments about the youngsters - can't say we saw any big problems, and we did feel that there were lots of older people looking out for the younger ones. Thank you Loobs and Pete and all who have worked so hard to make it a success. x P.S The kids all say that the Kangaroos were brilliant!

Hi all had a great maker this year Dreadzone where by far the best band i saw just like to say well done for adding the cabaret tent this year could be twice the size next year as it was full all weekend. Open mic was disappointing as only one and half hours allocated each day and then to find out Circus of sound took up 40 mins of open mic time whilst playing main stage and hemp tent, nothing against them but i do think open mic should be for people not performing at the festival!. Would like to see the energy room used for some more local bands as each time i looked in on sunday it was empty.

just got back from an decent festival experience (the rain won't dampen my spirits!), but once again there was more than enough people there trying to ruin it. we witnessed a fight between two 10 year olds, one holding a broken bottle and another swinging a BLOODY HAMMER!! no joke. the amount of times we saw kids picking on / fighting other kids in the campsite was disgraceful. we were even assaulted by some scousers who mistook us with some of the locals for throwing bottles at their kids!! i dont think we will return next year as it felt like a very unsafe place to go and the vibe generally was not very nice. Despite some good bands (and a big thumbs up to the cabaret stage!) the line-up was quite poor. I may return if i hear next year's festival has sorted out the many lows this years fest had.

Another brilliant festival, despite the weather doing its best to ruin it. Spirits were high, and the bands were brilliant. The caberet tent was a definate high note with some of the acts.
All in all another wicked festival, with an amazing atmosphere.

fully aggree with comments from D, lack of security inside the marquees and in the tented areas enabled some of the more undesirable little scum bag chavs to take advantage

Why did Black Friday get added to the line-up so last minute on the website. They didnt play anyway.

04 August 2008 19:53:27
Enjoyed the festival, but spoilt by chavs robbing tents and intimidating younger festival goers, our friend had her back pack stolen from her tent and we had people trying to get in our tent with us still in it.. As befroe we enjoyed mostly but spoilt by feral thugs , perhaps a bit more security at night visible to deter the scummy tent thieves, will not be coming back, but good luck to organisers, and a great site

Maker is over for another year! I feel a bit sad... And very spaced due to a lack of sleeping on the last night.

Loved Circus of Sound, who seemed to be popping up everywhere, Pentorr who need a longer set next year, Freshly Squeezed who were really punchy. Went in the caberet tent a bit, it was nice but I think maybe it needs to be a bit bigger or rearranged so people can get to the bar. Hemp space was great this year, like a mini festival in itself. Loved the way musicians were appearing in each others sets a lot this year.

I just had to write and say how FABULOUS that 007 band were last night in the Energy Room. That keyboard player was HOT!!
They got my vote for the best band of the festival. Hope they will be there next year.

Makers is allways a great gathering but I believe it would atract more people if there was a tent for dance/trance as when they played this type of music briefly during intervals everyone loved it and spirits were lifted. Maybe there could be a tent by the bunkers for people who dont want to sleep but dance the night away.

Your Information pages do not say what time the music STOPS each day.
Please will you do a proper check of sound levels throughout the neighbourhood. The noise was really bad last night in Anderton.
There are c.4000 people living close by; including nurses who have been on night duty and need to sleep; also some very sick people; and many others who find four days of relentless over-amplified noise extremely exhausting and unpleasant. Even with our doors and windows closed the bass thump vibrates through our homes and makes us resent you.
Millbrook Lake lies below Maker Heights Camp and is a sounding bowl. So PLEASE turn down the volume.
This year you have not consulted with the Friends of Mount Edgcumbe and so there is the really silly clash of events on Sunday 3 August when the impact on traffic, police and emergency services is likely to be really bad. Mt Edgcumbe have been running their Summer Fair and Car Rally long before your festival started. Any problems impact on the whole Rame community.

ok so my comment was a bit out of order and not fully explained. my main problem is with the cawsanders (and we know which ones) that cause the trouble. stealing, trashing peoples tents, etc etc. theyre a bloody nuisance. im from torpoint myself and have been to every maker so i know first hand who the "troublemakers" that oli is on about are. doesnt matter now. will be there later tonight even if the weather is rubbish.

We did try to get Show of Hands a couple years ago after seeing them at Eden sessions - didn't work out tho bit expensive and busy. Great band tho just been given their Best of Album (thanks to all the Davies).
Tickets will be available on the gate - no worries.
Let's see how the Energy Room goes this year - then decide whether it was a good idea.
Black Friday are playing Sunday night 8pm 2nd Stage.
We love the locals, almost all behave well. Those that don't won't be coming...i think that's fair...same for all.

i know you've heard it alot, but damn, getting rid of the usual energy room stuff is a badddd move. one day of rock bands, and not even putting any of the good locals ones in (i see that oli has managed to get his own band on the lineup again) is upsetting. this festival was always good for supporting the local bands and showing what they can do. now we just have dj's instead. boooooooooooooooooooo.

ive spoken to loads of maker regulars and the feeling seems mutual throughout.

**** IMPORTANT NEW INFORMATION ***
Here at Maker Events we are very conscious of the effects of the current credit crunch, fuel prices, rising costs etc and want to make a positive contribution to making the Maker Sunshine Festival affordable to families and groups with young people.
To this end we have decided to allow all young people 15 and under into the festival for free.
Youth ticket remains £50 for 16yr olds.
Young people's tickets must still be booked in conjunction with a full paying adult.
YOUNG PEOPLE 5 - 15 GO FREE
Hope this helps :))

The full and completed line-up goes live this week and yes we will be seeing Black Friday and a good selection of Energy Room bands because we haven't removed the Energy Room at all just added stuff...
We are always grateful for constructive feedback on what people want more of, less of, etc. So please do let us know...
Mad Dog have become a bit of an institution at Maker because they are so popular - with people from all over the country not just those that see them a lot locally.
Sorry we couldn't get 3 Daft Monkeys - we tried!

The Maker Green Team still has a few places left within the team rota at this summers Maker Sunshine Festival. From we're I come from I'd certainly like to see more local Rame residents involved, particularity 'young people' at this summers event. Last year the Maker Green Team achieved a 70% recycling and re-use rate at Maker Heights. This summer I'm hoping to top this further with the inclusion of 'food waste collection'. We now have the means to deal with this waste and turn this stuff into power and as a by product, 'compost' material'. All very exciting indeed!

Together all of us can make Maker the UK''s leading sustainable festival - just about everything is in place!

We can all set the standard by example, but we need your assistance to achieve this! For 2008 Maker Sunshine Festival Green Team volunteer forms, please email: delia@maker-green-team.org. Thank you!

Just got back to Staffs. Sad to miss the last few hrs but I'll know better next time. This was my first fest for 4 years, and my wife and kids first one ever so what a treat. My wife and three year old say they are convented and I'm sure my baby is as well after the way she was bopping in her backpack. looking around now for what else is on this year. Its gonna take me a week to come down from it. Thanks to the organisers and bands but also a big thanks to the happy smilely maker crowd, stars to the last. Its great to be in a place where everyone treats each other as should be. Se you all next year, when are the tickets on sale lol

Is "Spices" going to be in the back of the acoustic tent again this year? Good chef, violent Thai Green Curry, and a good bloke all-round but said that he was thinking of having a year-off.
Shame, if that's the case. Breakfast won't be the same.

Hi Kelly,

Yes, a pair of twenty-somethings wanting a beer, and to listen to some music will be quite welcome at Maker. It's precisely that sort of fezzie. If I come that's exactly what I will be doing.

Cheers, and have a good time.
